Dear 8th Grade Parents,
Welcome! My name is Kelly Vazquez, and I will be your child’s Religious Education teacher this 2018-2019 school year. We will continue what we learned in 7th grade in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Over the past 7 years your child has been learning about their Catholic Faith. This year, we want them to learn to live their faith.
We will be using the curriculum written by Matthew Kelly and a group called Dynamic Catholic. It was written for today’s youth as they prepare for the sacrament of Confirmation. There will be no tests, and the only homework may be them coming home and sharing what they have learned, and they may have a few questions for you. It will be a way of faith sharing for them and for you and for you both grow in your faith.
We invite you to go to the website dynamiccatholic.com and look around. The entire curriculum is available online. We have the journals and will watch the videos and or read the material as a class. There is only one rule for participation, either they write in their journal or they give an oral response in class. I won’t make the students share if they don’t want to, but I will encourage it. I will be reading the journals, so that I know them better and see how they are progressing in growing in their faith. I will make comments back to what they have written also.
The website says exactly what I believe:
“We hope this program will not only prepare young Catholics for the Sacrament of Confirmation in a dynamic way, but also teach and inspire them to respond and cooperate with God’s grace in all the circumstances of their daily lives, long after their Confirmation has passed.”
